Youth Games

This is a great game to aid with getting to know people in your group.Everyone in the group needs to think of three things to share about themselves - 2 must be truebut one must be a lie. When a player has shared their three things, the rest of the group must decide which of the three statements is a lie. The person then indicates which one was the "lie".

Also known as StuffIt and HugIt You will need two large t-shirts that someone does not mind re-washing/donating and two thin nylon ropes, or two simple (waist sized) rubber straps, or even belts will work. Also, you will need some water balloons. The more you have, the more fun the game becomes!Have two volunteers wear large t-shirts and strap the belts around their waists.

Instruct everyone in your group to find a partner. Each person shares a memory or experience that had a negative impact on their life with their partner. It could be an event or experience that happened as a child, at school or at work.Together they then explore and identify something positive that came from the experience.

A game of two extremes! This is a simple ice breaker to get people up and moving and sharing their preferences or views on topics.Create an imaginary line from one end of the room to the other. Command people to move to a point on the line to indicate where they stand on a particular issue.

A well-known game, this involves two teams pulling on opposite ends of a rope, the objective is to pull the rope a given distance in the direction they are pulling. Often this can be measured using a marker in the center of the rope.

Divide people into groups of three.Two people face each other and interlock hands. Put a blindfold on the 3rd person. They should then stiffen and fall backward into the arms of the two people. This should be carried out several times, with the person falling further back each time (the players locking their hands should lower them each time). Other players can then try.

This game is the best for large groups.Start by asking everyone to stand up. You then ask the group a question which can be answered with a  "True or False". Everyone has to answer true or false by putting their hands on their heads if they think the answer istrue, or their hands on their bum if they think it is false.

A trivia night can take many different forms, from being a fundraiser to being an annual competitive tradition!Here are a few general suggestions:Divide the group into tables - these tables make up the teams. Tables can choose their own names or alternatively give each table a number. Ideally, the name or number should be prominently displayed.

Elaborate to your group members that they are travel writers.

This game is a good five-minute game to encourage people to mingle.It requires several packets of jelly beans (depending on the size of your group). Hand each person 10 jelly beans, making sure they have a variety of colors. When everyone has 10 beans, the game starts.People need to trade their beans with each other, with the goal of having 10 beans of the one color.

Have everyone stand in a circle.The leader then says his/her name and then throws a tennis ball to the person to their left, continuing in one direction each person says their name and passes the ball until it gets back to the leader. The leader then calls out someone’s name and then throws the ball to them. That player then calls another name and throws, and so on.

Split into groups of 5-12 people. Hand out a roll of toilet paper to someone in the group and ask them to tear off as many sheets as they normally use, then pass (or throw) the roll to another member of the group to do the same. Do not explain the purpose at this point - it just adds to the mystery! Continue until everyone in the group has ripped off some paper.
