Running the Blindfold Maze Activity

  • Place a marker cone on the floor to define a start point.
  • Get team members to partner up and then introduce the activity: One person will be blindfolded, while the other will give verbal direction and create a route in the area. After the time is up, the blindfolded person must then use their memory, to retrace their steps to try and end up as close to the starting point as possible (the closer they are to the start point the better).
  • Start the activity and allow 2 minutes for partners to create a route for their blindfolded partner. After the time is up, give the blindfolded participants 3 minutes to retrace their steps and try to get as close to the start point as possible.
  • Switch roles and the other person has their turn.

Safety for Blindfold Maze Activity

  • Any area of the course that is off limits needs to be pinpointed.
  • The partner that can see, needs to assist their blindfolded partner in order to prevent them from falling into possible dangerous areas. The seeing partner needs to think very clearly of their position when they are leading their blindfolded partner.
  • If at any time the paired partners disobey the rules, they will immediately be instructed to leave the game and take a seat.

Activity Guidance and Notes

Instead of forming teams into pairs, try forming teams of three instead. In this case, the teams must still follow the same rules. However, there will now be two blindfolded partners. Both of these blindfolded partners must still attempt to go back over the course, and try to emerge at the original starting point.
