Look no further for a party idea, you can host your very own Escape Room Adventure, you and the kids’ will love.

The New kid on the block: Escape Room Parties

An Escape Room Party will not only provide great activities the kids will enjoy doing, but you will also be stimulating their minds and improving various skills. The kids will learn how to work in a team, solve problems and complete challenges. All this will be done in an interactive setting and not slumped over the computer or iPad screen.

One of the major things lacking today, because of the technology available, is a lack of imaginations. Kids need to play and use their imagination and an Escape Room Party is just the thing to get young minds going; helping them think outside the box, solve puzzles, work out strategies, and most importantly, have fun.

Amaze your kids with an Escape Room Party

You may be worried about the number of kids, are there too many or too few? Most times you may decide to invite only a handful, then land up having the whole class over. Whatever the number, it is not a problem, as long as you have four to six kids to begin with. More kids can easily be divided up into groups or teams.

Escape Room Parties are simple enough to plan and can fit any budget

Most parties, even if you plan one at home, can cost you a pretty penny. An Escape Room Party can be elaborate, with fancy props and costumes, but it doesn’t have to be. Keep it simple, the number one priority is for the kids’ to have fun and you can do that without breaking the bank.

Think of the average kids party, the cake, if you’re having it made, costs a small fortune in itself. Then you have the party packs, hired party equipment etc. This is where an Escape Room kit comes in handy, you can download an entire party kit for much less than the cost of a hired magician.

Ultimately, you would like to save some money, not have a panic attack while planning the party and ensure the kids will have fun. An Escape Room Party can provide all of this, your kids will be wanting this kind of party again the next year.

How much mess will I need to clean up?

Cleaning the area after an Escape Room Party is easy, you will be clearing mostly some paper, tape, boxes, some locks and maybe a scissors. The games are very simple to set-up and clean-up afterwards. Of course, other areas like the party table where the snacks and food are, might be another problem.

How long will a party game last?

Kids parties can be tiring, so if you don’t want everyone hanging around until the end of the day, it may be a good idea to set a time and to put this on the invitations. An Escape Game should only last for about 45 to 60 minutes. This is great, as most parties last just over two hours, including playing your game, blowing out the candles, eating cake and maybe opening presents.

Are you ready to plan the best Party Ever!

The easiest and quickest way to plan your Escape Party, is to download a kit. The kit contains everything you will need to host a party. Most kits are easy to print out and contain easy to understand instructions. Some kits also have links to video tutorials, which will show you how to proceed. Also included should be:

  • Invitations, which you can customize
  • Themed posters

Setting up your Game Kit

Print out what you will need, preferably on a colour printer. You will need to have a few supplies ready, such as scissors, glue, sticky tape, extra paper, pens and pencils. The posters are there to set the mood, you can add extra props, if you want.

When everybody is ready, hand out the cards, which introduce the game. After each puzzle or challenge, you can hand out the next card, which has another puzzle or challenge, carry on until the game comes to an end.

If you have a large group of kids, simply print out a few more pages and divide them into teams. Teams can compete against each other and to add even more of a challenge, include a time limit. You can also add to the game, for instance, placing a puzzle card inside a locked box, which the kids then have to open by discovering the answer to a preceding puzzle. The kit is yours once you buy it and you can therefore print out the game as many times as you wish.

Creating your own Escape Room

There is a more complete guide to creating your Escape Room Game, or simply just follow these easy steps.

Begin With a Theme

Most kids have a fair idea of what they want for their Birthday Party, so to get a theme, simply ask them. This could include themes such as Pirates, Wizards, Princesses, Minecraft, robots etc. Since this is a party at your home or some venue and you don’t make any money out of it, you don’t need to worry about Copyrights. You can use that Star Wars or Minecraft theme.

Storyline

Prepare a really short story, it doesn’t have to be an entire essay.

You will need to:

  • Figure out where the players will be; in a castle, ship, mummy tomb… You won’t have to create an elaborate setting; this will be for the printed cards. The images and pictures you use will set the scene for the game.
  • Figure out the goal or objective for each player. Does the pirate have to search for a treasure, or must the princess find her way through a maze to reach the magic crown? Use your imagination, the more exciting the goal, the more the kids will love it.
  • Create puzzles or challenges. A few ideas:
  • Each princess must find their way through a maze blindfolded, led by another princess who will guide them through.
  • The pirates must solve the pirate code in order to open the treasure chest
  • The good robots must shoot the bad robots, each target must fall before moving on. (use a NERF gun).

Keep it simple

Make game cards, which you can use as an introduction, to set the scene and where you can describe your puzzles and challenges. A simple method is to use PowerPoint, which creates nice slides. Export your final work as JPG files, then print these out. To make the cards look even better, print out on glossy paper.

It’s time to play

Begin by handing them the introductory card and explaining a few things to the kids; who are they and what they will be doing. Follow this up by handing over the first puzzle or challenge and let them play.
