Activity Description

Divide people into groups of three.

Two people face each other and interlock hands. Put a blindfold on the 3rd person. They should then stiffen and fall backward into the arms of the two people. This should be carried out several times, with the person falling further back each time (the players locking their hands should lower them each time). Other players can then try. This can also be played with only one person
catching.

Care should be taken that the two players who are acting as “catchers” are strong enough to hold the person who is falling. Potentially you can adjust the groups to have more catchers if required.
This game obviously involves placing your trust in the people catching you, and can lead nicely into a dialogue about trust:

  • in whom (or what) do we put our trust?
  • what is involved in trust?
  • what does trusting someone feels like?
  • do you find trusting people easy?
  • how do you decide whether someone is trustworthy?
  • how do you earn trust?
  • when trust is lost or broken, can it be gained back? How so?

Here are some useful bible verses on trust:

Psalm 7:1 New International Version (NIV)
1 LORD my God, I take refuge in you;
save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
Psalm 20:7 New International Version (NIV)
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

Psalm 71:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD,
my confidence since my youth.
Psalm 91:2 New International Version (NIV)
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 118:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in humans.

Proverbs 3:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
Proverbs 30:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 “Every word of God is flawless;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Nahum 1:7 New International Version (NIV)
7 The LORD is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,
